
AUTH Students Celebrate European Maritime Day with CoastalPro Project on Sustainable TourismĀ šš
As part of theĀ 2024 European Maritime Day (EMD)Ā celebrations, theĀ School of Journalism and Mass CommunicationsĀ atĀ Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH)Ā organized an innovative university project titledĀ āSustainable Coastal and Maritime Tourism,āĀ under the EU-fundedĀ CoastalProĀ initiative.
š The project brought togetherĀ 50 studentsĀ ā15 Greek and 35 Erasmus participants from 14 countriesāenrolled in the courseĀ āTravel Journalism and Communication.āĀ Their mission? To explore how journalism and public communication can foster a moreĀ responsible and sustainable travel lifestyleĀ in coastal and maritime destinations.
š What They Did
āĀ ResearchedĀ ocean-related global challenges, EU and UN policies, and sustainable tourism issues
āĀ AnalyzedĀ travel media content and its influence on perceptions of coastal tourism
āĀ CreatedĀ digital communication campaigns targeting young travelers and the general public
āĀ ProducedĀ travel content usingĀ social media, podcasts, and webcasts
This initiative aimed toĀ build ocean literacyĀ among journalism students and empower them to beĀ ambassadors of sustainable travel practicesĀ in their countries and communities.
šĀ Impact:Ā The student-led campaigns reachedĀ over 4,000 peopleĀ online, using storytelling and multimedia tools to raise awareness about ocean sustainability and responsible coastal tourism.
